FILM CARE & MAINTENANCE
CARE FOR THE FILM.
PRESERVE THE
PERFORMANCE.
VEHICOTEK automotive films are engineered for demanding real-world use. Proper care helps preserve appearance, clarity and product performance throughout the life of the film.
No protective film is immune to every contaminant, chemical, abrasive or physical condition. Follow the applicable care instructions below and contact a VEHICOTEK dealer when an unusual film condition cannot be safely corrected.
VIEW WARRANTY TERMSPAINT PROTECTION FILM
KEVY Series
Care for the finish. Protect the surface. These recommendations apply to KEVY paint protection film, including gloss, matte and satin finishes.
BACK TO TOPLET THE FILM SETTLE.
Newly installed film needs time to settle and bond. Avoid washing during the initial curing period; wait approximately 72 hours before the first wash unless your installer specifies a longer period because of temperature, humidity or installation conditions. Curing time can vary.
- Do not pick at film edges or aggressively wipe freshly installed edges.
- Temporary moisture patterns or slight haze may occur during curing. Ask the installer to evaluate them if they do not resolve normally.
WASH GENTLY. WASH CLEAN.
Hand wash when practical, using clean water, pH-neutral automotive shampoo, soft clean microfiber wash media and clean microfiber drying towels. Wash a cool vehicle out of strong direct sunlight.
- Avoid abrasive brushes, rough sponges, scouring pads and aggressive automatic brush washes.
- Avoid harsh acidic or alkaline cleaners, unapproved solvents and abrasive compounds.
- When pressure washing, maintain a reasonable distance. Never concentrate high-pressure spray directly at edges, seams or lifted areas.
REMOVE CONTAMINATION PROMPTLY.
Environmental contaminants can contain acids, pigments, minerals, resins, proteins, oils or other substances capable of staining or chemically affecting automotive surfaces and protective film. Remove these contaminants as soon as reasonably possible.
- Bird droppings, tree sap, berries and fruit residue
- Insects, pollen and organic matter
- Road tar, road chemicals and industrial fallout
- Hard-water deposits and mineral deposits
FRESH CONTAMINATION. A GENTLE FIRST RESPONSE.
For berries, tree residue, bird droppings, insects and similar organic contamination:
- Rinse the affected area with clean water as soon as practical.
- Allow dried contamination to soften before wiping.
- Wash gently using pH-neutral automotive shampoo and clean microfiber.
- Do not aggressively scrub dried contamination.
- Repeat gentle cleaning where necessary.
- If staining or etching remains, stop escalating the correction process and contact a VEHICOTEK dealer.
WHEN NORMAL CLEANING IS NOT ENOUGH.
Do not immediately use aggressive solvents, heavy polishing, sanding, abrasive compounds, unknown chemicals or strong acidic or alkaline cleaners.
- Photograph the affected area and record approximately when the condition occurred.
- Identify the contaminant if known and record products already used.
- Contact the installing VEHICOTEK dealer before attempting more aggressive correction.
SELF-HEALING DOES NOT MEAN DAMAGE-PROOF.
Self-healing technology is intended primarily to reduce the appearance of eligible light surface marks under appropriate conditions. It does not repair deep scratches, cuts, punctures, chemical etching, permanent contamination staining, severe abrasion, impact damage or physically damaged film. Do not intentionally scratch film to test its performance.
RESPECT THE FINISH.
For gloss KEVY products, use film-compatible detailing products only. For KEVYmatte and KEVYsatin, avoid products intended primarily to add gloss unless specifically approved for matte or satin protective film.
Confirm product compatibility with paint protection film and the applicable finish before use. Ceramic coatings, waxes and sealants are not automatically compatible.
AUTOMOTIVE WINDOW FILM
RAYNARY 3 / RAYNARY 5+ / RAYNARY 7
Preserve the view. RAYNARY films are generally installed on the interior glass surface; care for the filmed side gently using window-film-safe methods.
BACK TO TOPGIVE THE INSTALLATION TIME TO CURE.
Do not roll filmed windows down for at least 72 hours after installation, and do not clean the filmed interior surface during this initial period. Cold or humid conditions can extend curing time; the installing dealer may recommend a longer period.
Temporary slight haze or small moisture pockets can sometimes be visible during curing and may diminish as the installation cures. If unusual bubbles, lifting or optical distortion persist beyond normal curing, contact the installer.
CLEAN THE FILM SIDE WITH CARE.
Use clean water, soft microfiber, soft non-abrasive tools and a film-safe or tint-safe glass cleaner. Prefer ammonia-free window-film-safe cleaners as a conservative VEHICOTEK consumer recommendation.
- Do not scrape the film side of the glass.
- Avoid razor blades, metal scrapers, knives, abrasive pads, hard brushes and scouring materials.
- Avoid aggressive solvents, abrasive glass polish and excessive pressure.
CHECK WHAT TOUCHES THE WINDOW.
Avoid damaging film with aftermarket suction-mounted or adhesive accessories against the filmed surface, sharp tools, stickers requiring aggressive scraping, damaged weatherstripping or debris trapped in window seals.
If a window repeatedly scratches the film during operation, stop repeatedly cycling it and have the dealer inspect the glass, regulator and weatherstrip condition. Vehicle hardware damage is not itself a film manufacturing defect.
DEFROSTER & ANTENNA GLASS.
Where film covers glass containing defroster or antenna elements, clean gently. Avoid blades, sharp scrapers and aggressive abrasion over the elements. Consult the installer before removing film. These care recommendations do not warrant the vehicle's electrical glass elements.
WINDSHIELD PROTECTION FILM
KEVYhorizon
KEVYhorizon is a sacrificial exterior protection film. It is designed to protect the underlying windshield surface while the film itself is exposed directly to road debris, dust, sand, insects, weather, windshield wipers, washing and abrasion.
BACK TO TOPALLOW THE FILM TO BOND.
Avoid washing for at least 48 hours after installation, allow the film to bond and settle, keep the surface reasonably clean and inspect the windshield wiper blades. Use clean, good-condition blades.
WIPERS MATTER.
Dirty, hardened, damaged or worn blades can trap grit and repeatedly drag abrasive particles across the film. Repeated dry wiping over dust, sand or contamination may accelerate scratching and wear.
- Inspect blades regularly, keep them clean and replace worn blades.
- Remove sand and debris before repeated wiping when practical.
- Use washer fluid on a dry windshield whenever reasonably possible. Never delay wiper use needed for safe visibility.
KEEP CONTAMINATION OFF THE WINDSHIELD.
Promptly remove bird droppings, insects, tree sap, berries or fruit residue, road grime, hard-water deposits and other contaminants. Use clean water, pH-neutral automotive cleaning products and clean microfiber. Do not aggressively scrape contamination from the film.
SOFTEN ICE. AVOID SHARP TOOLS.
Avoid metal scrapers, sharp ice-removal tools, knives and aggressive scraping. Allow ice to soften or defrost, then use film-safe methods. Clear the windshield sufficiently for safe visibility before driving; care recommendations must not interfere with safe vehicle operation.
CONFIRM COMPATIBILITY BEFORE USE.
Glass polishing compounds, cerium oxide, abrasive windshield polish, strong water-spot removers, rain-repellent chemicals, ceramic coatings and solvents are not automatically approved.
Only use products confirmed to be compatible with exterior windshield protection film. When compatibility is uncertain, contact VEHICOTEK or the installer first.
UNDERSTAND SACRIFICIAL WEAR.
Expected exterior-film wear may include gradual wiper-path wear, light surface abrasion, minor road wear and appearance change associated with normal service exposure. Normal sacrificial wear is not a manufacturing defect and does not expand the existing 30-Day Limited Manufacturing Defect Warranty.
Severe premature failure is not automatically normal wear. If a condition appears abnormal or premature, document it and contact the installer for evaluation. Protective film does not guarantee that the underlying windshield will never sustain damage.
EVERY FILM. EVERY DAY.
SMALL HABITS.
LASTING CARE.
DO
Clean contamination promptly. Use soft clean microfiber and appropriate film-safe products. Maintain wiper and window hardware. Contact a VEHICOTEK dealer when a condition cannot be safely corrected.
AVOID
Aggressive solvents, strong unknown chemicals, abrasive tools, sharp scrapers, sanding and aggressive polishing. Do not intentionally damage film to test performance or allow severe contamination to remain unnecessarily.
DOCUMENT. THEN ASK.
SOMETHING DOESN'T
LOOK RIGHT?
If film develops unusual bubbling, peeling, delamination, discoloration, staining, etching, coating deterioration or another abnormal condition, document it and contact your VEHICOTEK dealer before aggressive correction or removal.
